Diabetes Prevention
Our speakers were:
– Dr Deneen Vojta, Chief Clinical Officer and Executive VP, Diabetes Prevention and Control Alliance, UnitedHealth Group
– Baroness Barbara Young, Life Peer and the former Chief Executive of Diabetes UK
Diabetes prevention is proven, possible, and powerful. Without exaggeration diabetes is becoming a modern, albeit silent, epidemic. At one time, type-2 diabetes was more common in people aged over 45. Now however, many young people have the disease as a result of being overweight or obese. Many of these individuals may have been able to prevent the onset of the disease with proper awareness, diet and exercise.
Kindly supported by Optum, this event saw Dr Deneen Vojta and Baroness Barbara Young draw on their experience to give us a real insight into what the next steps could be for diabetes prevention both in the US and here. Of course, a lively discussion followed, facilitated by our Co-Chair Pam Garside.
