Hospital Turnaround
Hospital Turnaround – Wednesday 16th March
Our speakers were:
• Clare Panniker, Chief Executive, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
• Maureen Dalziel, Chair, Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS University Hospitals NHS Trust
In this event, we examined, what exactly is needed for a successful hospital turnaround? What do special measures actually mean for a failing trust?
Two years ago Basildon Hospital was one of 11 hospitals placed under special measures by the Health Secretary. A year later, following significant restructuring and governance overhaul, amongst other things, it received a good rating from the CQC and was pulled out of special measures. Our first speaker, Clare Panniker, led the Trust, and joined us to talk exactly about the transformation they undertook and the key elements to their turnaround success.
Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is currently under special measures. Our second speaker was Maureen Dalziel, who is their current Chair and gave us a fascinating insight into how the special measures regime gives the Trust the opportunity, with support from across the NHS, and with partners, to put together an effective improvement plan.
