NHSX Launch AI Buyer’s Checklist at CHN’s first Webinar

Article

Dr Indra Joshi, NHSX’s Director of AI chose CHN’s webinar with Kheiron Medical on 6th May to launch brand new guidance on procuring AI solutions in the NHS.

CHN was delighted to share this breaking news with its members, ahead of an engaging webinar discussing how AI solutions can help restart routine health services, what ‘good’ looks like and how to move at speed without compromising patient safety.

Pam Garside, CHN co chair said “This was our first virtual CHN and we are delighted that we had more attendees than we can normally accommodate and with a major NHSX announcement. Look out for more webinars before we get back to meeting in person”.

A Buyer’s Checklist for AI in Health and Care has been created by NHSX to help procurement teams and chief finance officers, service transformation and commissioning leads, in-house data scientists and analysts, and other chief officers to make good decisions about AI technology. Quoting from the preface to the short reference checklist:

“The unprecedented context of COVID-19 presents an enormous opportunity for the uptake of innovative digital solutions at pace and scale. Health and care organisations are receiving multiple proposals for AI applications that may improve the quality and ease the burden of their work. At the same time, organisations need to be assured that any AI technology they do buy meets the highest standards of safety and efficacy.”

The NHSX AI Lab has a mission to accelerate the safe adoption of artificial
intelligence in health and care. This new Checklist builds on the policy context and overview of the opportunities and challenges presented by AI for health and care in last year’s report: Artificial Intelligence: How to Get it Right.
